As part of his training towards being a Registered Psychologist in Canberra, Vik was trained extensively in using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in flexible ways across various settings. He started by providing therapy to young people in the Residential Care setting, then moved to Occupational Rehabilitation helping injured workers return to work. He then concluded his training by providing specialised Trauma-Focused CBT to people in a pilot program aimed at various types of Depression and Anxiety Disorders (PTSD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety, Phobias).
After becoming a Registered Psychologist, Vik used his experience to help people with an extensive trauma background in acute crisis. Specifically, he worked within a forensic setting within an Immigration Detention Centre, as well as in the community as part of Community Mental Health teams within NSW Health.
Vik maintains a person-centred approach, and understands that each person is an expert of their own life. This forms the basis of the therapeutic partnership that Vik uses to help people towards a life worth living.
Vik provides therapy with an emphasis on a solution-focused approach using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. He works across the age spectrum starting from 16 years and over, and has expertise in trauma-informed approaches to therapy.
Vik works in the Blaxland office on Mondays and Tuesdays.
