BA Psych, PG Cert Developmental Trauma, PSY0001911772

Tania is fortunate to have more than five years’ experience working with children, adolescents and adults. Areas of interest include trauma (developmental, complex & PTSD), and how this impacts neurobiology, behaviour and personality.

Tania’s passion for mental health commenced after growing up in a small town in Central West of NSW where she saw the impacts of mental illness on families, individuals and community. With a curiosity for psychology Tania enrolled in the Bachelor of Psychology at Charles Sturt University. Her passion and experience were strengthened and further driven by her work with children and young people in residential care. She then made the move to Sydney and is now settled in the Blue Mountains where she has continued to follow her passion for working with children, young people and adults, predominantly those who are vulnerable and have experienced significant trauma.

Tania comes with more than five years’ experience working with children, adolescents and adults. Areas of interest include trauma (developmental, complex & PTSD), and how this impacts neurobiology, behaviour and personality.  She was fortunate to be able to complete a Graduate Certificate in Developmental Trauma that has opened her eyes to the biological aspects of trauma. More recently, her interests have shifted towards understanding the links between nutrition, exercise, hormones and mental health issues. Tania views mental health as holistic in nature, thus not looking at mental health symptoms in isolation but rather conceptualising the person’s health and wellbeing as a whole (i.e. inclusive of physical health).

In addition to her work with trauma, Tania sees clients with Depression, Anxiety, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Dissociative Disorders, operating within a client centred, recovery oriented framework that builds capacity, fosters empowerment and instils hope. Tania has a genuine curiosity in hearing people’s stories and how they view the world. She focuses on the importance of building a safe therapeutic environment where clients can work towards personal growth and self-efficacy. A range of evidence-based interventions are adopted in therapy including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills, psychoeducation, relaxation and mindfulness training.

Tania adopts creative interventions using art, play and storytelling to ensure treatment is tailored to the individual client. Furthermore, she is experienced in providing psychometric testing for adults and children, including parenting stress (parent-child system), behavioural disorders and cognitive capacity. Therapeutic and assessment services can be provided through Medicare and NDIS.

Tania works in Penrith on Mondays and in Blaxland on Tuesdays.
